Tau Theta Lambda Chapter

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American Men. Established at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York on December 4, 1906 by seven college men who recognized the need for a strong bond of brotherhood among African descendants in this country. The seven visionary founders, known as the “Jewels” of the fraternity, are Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman,  Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy.

The fraternity initially served as a study and support group for minority students who faced racial prejudice, both educationally and socially, at Cornell. The Jewels and early leaders of the fraternity succeeded in laying a firm foundation for Alpha Phi Alpha’s principles of scholarship, fellowship, good character, and the uplifting of humanity.

Tau Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Key #985 was charted on February 16, 2023, in St. Louis County, Missouri, by seven dedicated Alpha men who saw the need and had the vision to expand Alpha’s mission and presence in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. Charter members are: Dr. Ian Barrett, Dr. William Brown, Anthony Clark, Dr. Freddie J. Clark, Reginald Phillips, Dr. Pierre Smith and R. D. Storrs.
